Buy Pangasius - Prepare it
In nutshell buying and preparing your favorite Pangasius fish is not a difficult task if you make the following tips part of your cooking and buying behavior:
First, Pangasius, or Basa fish, is a catfish and you can use it in kitchen just like any other catfish. It has some advantages, though (despite the cheap price): the meat is firm and without bones, (scales are missing anyhow) while the taste is mild, yet very good.
As Pangasius comes always frozen (it might be that you bought it thawed already) you should refrain from refreeze it again. If you do not buy it frozen, you can be sure the fillets have been thawed. This is due to the long distance from the import places and the long export procedure. Virtually all Basa fish stems from import, though quite a few Pangasius are successfully farmed in the USA, now.
However, when the fish has been frozen anyhow, you could also buy it frozen, what is in most cases not only cheaper, but will make you much more flexible.
Preparation is never a tiresome task if you know how to do it. Basa fish makes a whole lot of tasty dishes when combined with pasta, rice, cheese, vegetables and curry. I even used it with a paella recipe! Your favorite catfish (even seafood) recipe is just fine! You can prepare it in any way you like or try some of our recipes, but remember some basic tips to have the best outcome.
First of all, before using Pangasius always wash it with some slightly salty water, after you bought it already thawed. This way all the smell it might have gained at the market will wipe down.
Secondly, don’t overcook it. This should be obvious, but Pangasius takes just a little time to get fully cooked so it is better to keep a check while cooking because overcooked Basa fish will not only lead to a loss of essential nutrients but also make its pieces to fall apart.
That’s it! Just take a look on our Basa recipes and enjoy!
